JOB DESCRIPTION
Determining the root cause of an asset failure is best commenced by a close visual inspection. NDT or non destructive testing is a further quantitative investigation for non visible failures or erosion. DBC group were tasked to investigate an industrial gutter system that was leaking into an electric motor room. At first site it was a leak due to corrosion or blockage. Inspection quickly determined that the root cause was structural failure of roof truss bolts. This twisted the gutter to 45 degrees. Working closely with the engineering department, the engineered solution was to weld a 20mm support plate onto the steel wall then jack up the truss with the attached gutter, back into position then secure with fresh bolts. During torrential rain a week after the fix, the cleaner commented how it was already improving safety and allowing him to work in the dry. This project led to the inspection and replacement of loose structural bolts throughout similar areas.
